How To Transform From Basic To Baddie WIth Short Scanty Natural Hair

"I don't mind giving everyone a shock including myself"
- Jessica Brown Findlay #QOTP

Hello guys. Welcome back to my blog. How are you all doing. If it's your first time here, you're most welcome. I hope you love what you see and you stick around. I was inspired to do this post for any other girl out there like me who has low density aka scanty, weight less short hair that can't be styled and packed in different ways to look good and finds herself without her hair made on a special day such as Christmas and you don't feel like throwing on a wig. This is just a guide on how you can work with what you have and still slay. Hope you guys like it as I don't want to restrict myself on the kind of posts I put up anymore. If you would like more of these kind of posts, leave a comment down below. Don't forget to  subscribe with your email, it's absolutely free and easy.

So the first thing you want to do is
1. Prep your hair - By natural hair, I don't mean virgin non-relaxed hair. I mean hair that isn't made so I believe your hair is already washed and clean. So it doesn't look dry, oil it and comb it.
2. Pack it into a bun - I love pony tails but my hair isn't long enough for that so what I do is to sling it all back into a tight bun like this. It just looks neater and classic than having it just pushed to the back freely.
3. Get Your Eyebrows On Fleek - Fill in your brows even if you're not doing any face makeup, Filled in brows just gives you a different look that's almost as if your whole face is made up when it's actually not. It just makes your face not look so bare anymore.
4. Line Your waterline - Lining especially under your eyes is a sure way to make them pop. I lined my eyes with this random black gel pencil liner and drew on some wings as well, you don't have to. But lining your eyes is one step to not looking basic.

5. Bold lips - Your hair is bare so you need something to draw some attention to your face hence bold lips. I have on this matte lipstick from my local pharmacy in a reddish burgundy - ish shade and dark brown lip liner.
6. Earrings - My aunty told me a long time ago that I should always put on earrings because they frame your face. I love to wear studs so much but when you're trying to look extra without your hair made, you should ditch studs and go for something more show stopping. I suggest big hoops or long dangling earrings that will frame your face and add some depth.
7. Neck accessories -  a simple necklace, neck charm, choker goes a long way to spice things up. I had on this DIY Ankara choker I made within seconds from the head tie of my dress, I'll make a post on that choker and leave here.
8. Have Some  Baddie Confidence - I do this thing where sometimes if I'm not feeling confident especially about how I look. I ask myself, how would Beyonce walk in? How would she talk if she were here with her hair looking glam or not and I just get confident and own my natural short scanty hair after all, it is mine anyway, I didn't borrow or buy it.

So that's all for this guide. Just in case you were wondering, I don't have any foundation, concealer or powder on. I will show you guys my this Ankara dress and others in my Ankara collection post that I'll link here once it's up so look out for that. Hope this helps and inspires someone out there. Please leave me your thoughts in the comments below, would love to hear what you think. What other ways can a girl look like a baddie without her hair made up? Thank you for reading, until the next post, hugs!!

Girls Chat Series 1: Everything You Need To Know About Getting Your First Period

Hello there, welcome to another blog post, I hope you are doing great. I am so excited to be kicking off this series as you can see from the title above with my friend and blogger Mide of . I just feel as a growing girl or an evolving young lady, it's important to have access to information and have a place to share your concerns and have things cleared out for you and also to know that someone else is going through whatever it is you are going through or has been there and done that. Together we will be putting up posts that concern the female folk and talking about issues that all ladies whether old or young can relate to: topics that cover beauty, femininity, relationships, friendships, dating, health, hygiene, name it! If you have any questions or issues you would like to see talked about during this series, please don't hesitate to leave a comment or send your questions to me via email (check the contact section of the blog) or my twitter or Instagram (see the social media icons for a direct link). I would be thrilled to receive your questions for a Q&A kind of post. So onto today's post

image of everything about getting your first period

  • DEVELOPING BREASTS: You should expect your period about two years after your breasts start developing. My breast started out when I was 9/10 and I had my period at age 12. Bear in mind however that it's different for every girl and yours might come earlier or later.
  •  GROWING PUBIC HAIR: You start your period about 1 or 2 years after you start growing hair in your vaginal area and armpits.
  • VAGINAL DISCHARGE: Discharge is the yellow/whitish stuff that comes out from your vagina and you may see on your underwear. If you start seeing this, it means your period is a few months away.

  • THE ANXIETY IS NORMAL : Every girl is anxious to grow up and begin menstruating, I was too especially if all your friends have started theirs. But you need to calm down and understand that your period will come when you least expect. And also the timing is different for every girl. For some girls, it's as early as 8 or 9 and for some others it comes later at age 16. If your period doesn't come after age 16, it's advisable you go to a doctor to check you up
  • PADS & TAMPONS : You can't just go around with blood flowing out of you, you need something to collect and lock it in. A pad is a kind of baby diaper, it is flat rectangular and sticks to your underwear. I use the ones that come with wings to hold the pad in place and prevent side leakages and the thin ones known as Ultras. I recommend ultras, they are secure and comfy.

According to your flow which could be light, normal or heavy, there are different types of pads. For your first period wish is usually not heavy, a normal pad is okay. Night pads are also good for sleeping at night. I personally use night pads all day long because of the longer length and my heavy flow. Surprisingly, I have never used a tampon before in my 7 years of "menstruationhood" like ever but I have read that you should have your period up to 5 times before you start using a tampon.

A tampon is an absorbent material that is shaped like a test tube that works from inside your vagina. You insert it in by using your fingers or an applicator, when it comes in contact with liquid it opens up like a flower to collect the blood. Tampons are worn together with panty liner. Tampons are better for exercising, sports or going swimming.  You can buy pads from the mall, supermarket, pharmacy or chemist. There are different brands available, sizes and types.

  • HOW LONG DO YOU WEAR A PAD? The length you can wear a pad depends on how heavy your flow is but to prevent odour from a bacteria that grows inside the menstrual blood, you should change your pad every 3-4 hours. When your pad is becoming full, you will know because it doesn't feel thin, dry or comfy anymore, it feels heavy and wet which brings me to the next point.
  • CARRY A PAD WHEREVER YOU GO: Always have a pad in your locker, your purse, your school bag, your handbag at all times because your period can show up anytime, anywhere, any place. It just doesn't care!
  • WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU GET YOUR PERIOD UNEXPECTEDLY: If you are at home, go to your mum, your older sister or an an older female family member and ask for a pad. If you are at school, ask your friend or an older school mate or simply go to the school nurse. They always have pads in the school clinic. If you don't have a pad and you have started you period, you can fold rolls of toilet paper unto your panties as a temporary solution until you get a pad. If you are already stained at school, cover the stain with a sweater or head wrap or bag until you can go to the bathroom and clean up.
  • AN EMERGENCY PERIOD KIT: this is a small purse that contains supplies you will need when your period starts, You can purchase the kit as a whole or can make one for yourself.

  1. Get a small bag with a zipper like a makeup bag
  2. Put in some panty liner, some regular pads and some heavy pads just in case the flow changes up
  3. Put in some clean underwear
  4. Disposable bags to pop in your used products
  5. Pain relievers
  6. Body spray
  7. Body wipes/tissue

  • Remember to mark the start and end date of your period and note how long it lasted, the duration is different for every girl and can be anything from 3 - 10 days. This will help you know when next to expect your period.

  • Getting your period is a sign that you have grown up. You should not be embarrassed if someone sees your kit or your pads although you should try to keep it private. When you're on your period, you can do anything and everything you would do when you are not on your period. It's not an illness. Feel free to talk to your mom or an older one about any questions you may have. As you may already know, never flush pads or tampons down the toilet, wrap it up and put in the trash. Try to maintain general personal hygiene during your period so you feel fresh and healthy.
A follow up post about Period tips and hacks to help you get through that "time of the month" is coming through soon so look out for it. If you have any thoughts on any of the points, any information on what a girl should know before her period comes or any further questions, please leave them in the comments section below and also feel free to share this post everywhere possible, someone somewhere could also be in need of this information, Thanks for reading and don't forget to check out Mide's Girlschat post for this week to see what she talked about HERE, it's bound to be juicy... Lol. Until the next post, Hugs!

What if I fall? Oh my darling, what if you fly?

Hi guys (including girls) !! It's been a while.  How's everyone doing?  Thanks to all who have read my previous posts.  It means soo much to me. Today I came across a quote about the title above and it got me thinking.  There are so many things I have wanted to do in my life,  so many people I wanted to introduce myself too and talk too,  so many requests I wanted to make but I thought about it. What if they say no? What if I mess up?  What if people don't like it?  What if I am rejected?  What if I fail? And just like the title what if I fall?  Too many times, our thoughts are just on the worst case scenario and we never do anything because we are always thinking of the negative.  We keep over thinking and try to be cautious meanwhile it's the risk takers who make news, who dream and then realise their dreams.  Think this way, what if I succeed? What if I fly?  What's the best case scenario?

And more importantly, that something didn't work out for me the first time doesn't mean I have failed.

F - first
A - attempt
I -  in
L - learning

Instead of thinking you have lost or you have failed,  you have discovered one wrong of way of doing something and the next time you try, you will do it the other way.  If you are trying to approach someone and they say no to you,  so what?   It doesn't take anything off you if you're are really confident in yourself and you know your worth. He or she could say no,  yeah but what if they say yes?

For me, knowing that I tried and it didn't work is much better than living in the uncertainty of what could have been if I had actually done something.

One of my favorite quotes of 2016 is "Sometimes we need to just do first and think later" 😁. J.  K.  Rowling did say "it is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case,  you fail by default" Don't live life so cautiously, do that thing, take that step and see what happens.  It could be the best decision you ever made. Until the next post,  #chinupandbefabulous #dofirstthinklater

P. S.  Incase you're wondering who J.  K.  Rowling is. She is just a badass author who happened to write the entire Harry Potter series and other books.

Rihanna started her song with "this song's all about work" well, this post's all about work too. Like the music industry has been trying to pass this message of work across to us, in Beyonce's song get me bodied, she did say "a little work ain't never hurt nobody" and even fifth harmony sang "work from home" one of my faves of the year. So let's get started. I was just going through my instagram feed this morning and saw a quote about work and decided to put something up about it. As a young lady, I love to work, why? Because I can't stand failure. Whether I don't get good grades at school, or I don't succeed at a project I am working on or I can't meet my basic needs or whatever it is, failure makes me sad, depressed and lowers my self esteem. So the solution to not feeling that way is to work hard all day, everyday and I am not saying I don't have lazy days!

I just want to encourage you guys and girls to work hard and for those who are already doing that, keep pushing. My teachers in school always said "anything worth doing is worth doing well". If you are in high school or university, work hard at it, be the best you can be, succeed!. As Nigerian parents would say "those other kids getting 1st position, do they have two heads? Is it not the same brain like yours that they have, why can't you get 1st also", lol. Studying long hours for quizzes and exams, staying up late to finish your papers and essays, long hours of lecture might seem like such a herculean task but I promise you if you work hard, the end result will be something you would be proud off.

If you have a business or something that you do, be your number 1 fan and number 1 supporter. Arrive earlier than everyone else because it's your business. Be dedicated to whatever you do. Put in 150% effort and then some more. In life, nothing is just handed down to us on a platter of gold. We have to go out there and fight for what we want and demand the kind of life we want to live. If not, we just end up like everyone else. You choose today how you want your tomorrow to be like, People who have not so great lives chose that for themselves way back.

All work and no play makes danie a dull girl so work hard and do not forget to play as well. This is coming from a repentant workaholic. I used to work so hard, so hard and never believed in playing. But please don't work so hard that you loose sight of the things that really matter in life like peace, happiness, love, family, friends, relationships and rest. It's important. Put in that extra effort this week and see the difference it makes. When you succeed, everyone wants to know how you did it but when you fail, you are on your own. Until the next post, #chinupandbefabulous #hardworkneverkilledanybody #successlooksgoodonyou

Hi!!! Have you seen Joy the movie? If you have not and you fit into the description above, you have to. How did I find this movie because I had never heard of it before. Well, my usual movie streaming site - .It was just a lazy Saturday morning and I was searching for something to feed my eyes on when I stumbled on the thumbnail and I was like JOY?? What kind of title is that?? This must be a musical, after reading the summary, I decide to give it a try. I wonder if I am the only one who can over analyse things even movies, always trying to find meanings to things and pick out lessons from every event, that's me! So straight to the movie, the lead character was played by Jennifer Lawrence - one of the young badass actresses of our time whom I love, she is really good and the film is based on a real life story. It is all about a divorced mother of 2 who invented a self-wringing mop and made a business out of it but not without her own struggles. It spoke to me from the beginning to the end. So straight to the lessons

  1. YOU WILL BE TURNED DOWN MANY TIMES: All through history, people who have made it and turned out great faced several rejections, people did not believe in their dreams, their talents, their ideas, their abilities. Read the biographies of men and women who are celebrated today Oprah, Beyonce(whom I love), J.k. Rowling, Elvis Presley, Thomas Edison and the list goes on. Joy was rejected too, no one was interested in a special mop at a surprisingly higher price when the ones they had were doing just fine. So brace yourself for rejection because it is inevitable to attain true success and become who you want to be. You will be rejected, fired, criticised, spat on and looked down on but never give in and never give up.
  2. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE SHIT FROM ANYONE & A CLOSED MOUTH IS A CLOSED DESTINY: From the experiences I have had so far, I know that people are going to talk shit about you, say shit to you, try to make you feel less than you are. You might find yourself in bad situations and if you are like me, you try to keep cool and tolerate everything, but truth is you are a human being who has a voice and opinion. Say how you feel about stuff, voice out what you want and whatever you are not comfortable with, confront who you have to. You will have to step on some toes, you can't please everybody and displease yourself. You deserve to be happy too. You should be in control of what goes on in your business. Don't be afraid to make your points clear and put people in their place. If you keep your mouth shut, you just keep dying inside.
  3. NETWORK! NETWORK!! NETWORK!!!  You might be talented and have an amazing idea but honey you can never do it all on your own, you need help and it is okay to need help. My mum always tells us "no man is an island". Don't be afraid to go out there and meet people and share what you do with them, they just might know someone who knows someone who knows someone that can help you immensely, Remember that every conversation is an opportunity.
  4. SHE GAVE UP EVERYTHING FOR HER DREAM: The kind of commitment she had to see her vision till the end was scary, I personally have an issue with going through with things that seem to not be going as I planned or expected. She gave up her house, everything she had to invest in her dream which is something we should all emulate. Remember no one will believe in your dream except you do!
  5. ALWAYS BE YOURSELF : Who you are is your brand and we are created to be unique. In every situation, please be yourself. Joy was about to go on live TV to promote her invention. The TV corporation had already styled and dolled her up but she asked to change one thing and she went back to her original look. It spoke to me because there have been times where I felt I had to leave some of my "danie-ness" behind to fit into a crowd or some people's expectations. Always be yourself. Be unique. Do you boo!
  6. BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU PUT YOUR SIGNATURE ON: My mum always tells us this. She will be like "have you read it? Make sure to read that paper before you sign o!" Know the conditions of a contract or agreement before you sign so you don't find your self in a tight corner.
  7. NEW KIND OF CONFIDENCE: there are days when you don't feel so great about yourself! You feel this life isn't just cut out for you. I have come to discover that changing our look a bit can give a new kind of confidence. For Joy, it was a new hairstyle, new look and some red lipstick. Red lipstick can be so empowering. if you are going through some emotional blues maybe a bad breakup or heartbreak, you should consider changing your look a bit and see how you feel.
  8. Joy's ex husband was a major help and support system for her during the beginning and following stages of her business. They made a good team. It got me thinking and my friend Peju and I always discuss this. People come into our lives for a reason and for a season so we should not get caught up in the fact that we have a connection with someone and suddenly that's our life partner, NO! Her husband was a better business associate than a relationship partner which I believe was why they crossed paths in the first place. Understand the time frames and purposes of people in your life before making decisions about them.
Just a few things I will like to add:
  • Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Your enemies might sometimes be household e.g. Joy's sister Peggy.
  • Don't ever listen to or let in any form of negativity.
I was so happy to see her final state. Wealth and success looked good on her and guess what? It looks good on you and I too. Keep dreaming! Keep pushing! Until the next post..... #chinupandbefabolous
