10 Struggles In The Life Of A University Student

Hi, guys! I have been meaning to post this for so long. Being a student myself, I had this idea to just sort of highlight all the struggles we go through from the very first day on campus up until graduation. I know not everyone experiences every single one of these struggles at the same time but if you are or ever were a student, you can definitely relate to some of them.

The struggle of waking up in the morning - This isn't even a university struggle. It started since primary school and still continues.  Am I the only one who sets my alarm like two hours before I'm supposed to wake up just so I can hit snooze over and over again until I finally wake up.

The Struggle of Sleeping early - especially when you have a lot of piled up school work to do and you just want to get everything done in a day which is most times not possible. I almost always sleep off on my books or computer many days in a week.

The struggle of meeting up with deadlines - There's just so much to do in so little time.... I mean! It's almost like every lecturer feels you have no other course or no other things to do in life apart from the course you are taking from him or her. Hellurr!! I have other courses too I need to study for and I have a life outside the class.  And then there's the struggle of forgetting your deadlines or pushing the work thinking you still have time and them-n you find out the deadline has either passed or is in a few hours.

Dislike for one particular course - I know some semesters when I just hated a particular course maybe because it just required a whole lot of extra work, or I would study and study and stuuuuddyyy for it but still score below my expectations in the tests or  the teacher is just annoying or I just didn't like the course.  Am I not free to not just like a course...especially circuit theory.

Exam periods study - *Breathe in, "huuunnnnn" breathe out "haaaaaannn"*  I hate exams! I hate them soo much! Like why can't we just go to class and get the knowledge and just carry on with life? Do you have to test if we know it? I don't know about others but exams are so restricting for me because I can't do the things I just feel like doing like just forget my books for a bit and watch a movie, just chill, sleep or go out but no! There's a bell ringing at the back of my mind "you have exams" "you have exams" "you have exams" and I don't want to fail so I have to study. Like exam periods just take away my freedom.

Trying to balance social life and academic life - This is one very real struggle. You are young, you want to explore and have fun because in reality, "YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE" Y.O.L.O and YOU ONLY DULL ONCE too, Y.O.D.O  But at the same time, you want to be focused and do well at school. Although some people balance turning up and killing it at school, not everyone can. A good solution is setting your priorities right, managing your time and being self-disciplined.

Fear of failure - I talked about this is my Phobias, habits & obsessions tag post, the feeling of fear is one struggle a lot of us face. We are afraid that all our efforts won't amount to anything or we won't be as great as we all hope and dream to be. And constant failures, low grades are some reasons why people get discouraged and actually drop out of university.

Money - related struggles - When you are at uni, there's always something to buy, something to pay for. Tuition, living costs (like food, bills, rent), turning up costs (like going out and having a good time) and slaying costs (money you need to slay like buy makeup, do your hair, buy new shoes, clothes etc ) are all there. So money is never enough. Even if you don't always have money issues, you must have at least being broke once.

Home sickness - Except you go to school from home, you will definitely miss home and your family at a point even though I never thought I would miss my annoying siblings but I miss them a lot. More so if you school far away or in another country where you're miles away from your loved ones.

Adulting and making choices - University is real life. You have to grow up and start making choices on your own. I know when I was younger, I couldn't wait to grow up and be on my own but it's not all fun and sometimes, I just want my mommy.

So that's some of the struggles I know, which of these struggles can you relate to and what others have you faced? Let me know in the comments below. Please subscribe and follow the blog if you haven't already and follow me on my social media. Thank you for reading. Stay awesome!

Paper rejections from one journal to another fear of it being rejected again.
The fear of your suprevisors crossing your entire work is the beginning of hardwork and nescafe just to stay awake all night and there comes the big one 40% plagiarism hahaha what kind of app is this that the university is using all students complain. it even pick your name and even "he or university" as plagiarism omg where do I start from?
Maybe I will leave this thesis and travel for summer and then it dawns on you that you will have to pay another 3500euros.....you use the speed of light to finish everything.....

    1. Thank you Williams for this comment! I'm not a graduate student that's why so I haven't experienced all this lol. The struggles are equally real on that side, getting an education in general isn't easy but push push we keep on pushing!
