How To Discover Your Personal Style, Fashion Tips and Blogging Tips From Top Fashion Blogger Zaria Brown of Adoseoffab.com

October 29, 2016

I first came across Zaria Brown when she was featured by the black bloggers club on Instagram and I was just taken away by how breathtaking she looked even through the screen of my phone and I just had to find her page and follow her. She's a 23 year old personal style blogger from South Carolina, currently studying for a masters degree in Human Resources. I reached out to her for an interview so I and my awesome readers could have a sneak peek into her awesomeness and she loved the idea. Have a lovely read.

Danie: When and what inspired you to start your blog?
AdoseofFab: I started my blog in March of 2015. I did it because I wanted to share my love of fashion with the world and to show other young women what can happen when you let your creativity and confidence combine.

Danie: How would you describe your style?
AdoseofFab: I have my phases. I used to shop at Forever 21 then I went through a phase of simply thrifting, I loved nothing but heels at once, then I started wearing sneakers. So I feel I have an eclectic style, it depends on my mood.

Danie: How did you discover your personal style like the kind of things you like to wear?
AdoseofFab: I just go to what attracts my eye. I look at Pinterest, Tumblr or I simply go in my closet and combine what I already have. It's trial and error, you just have to be confident to own what you wear no matter what anyone says.

Danie: Why is it important for you as a person to dress up everyday?
AdoseofFab:  I don’t “dress up”, this is what I wear. I put on a dress,  or jeans and a blouse just like someone puts on a pair of joggers and a t-shirt. It’s important to look your best every day because you never know who you’re going to meet. If you’re going to an interview, dress for that. If you’re going shopping, dress how you want but you never know where your outfit can take you.

Danie: Can young girls look stylish without spending a lot? And how?
AdoseofFab: Of course! I still go thrifting till this day. It’s a thrill in finding something on a budget while still looking good. I would say start out in frugal-friendly stores such as Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and on top of that go to the clearance rack first, and take advantage of sales and same applies if you want to build your wardrobe on a budget.

Danie: Do you plan on working in the fashion industry in future?
AdoseofFab: To be honest, I haven’t thought about it. I’ve worked in retail for seven years, but fashion, I haven’t really given much thought to it.

Danie: What are some of the brands you have worked with as an influencer?
AdoseofFab: I have worked with Eshakti, Rocksbox and Payless.

Danie: Who is/are your fashion inspiration?
AdoseofFab: June Ambrose, StylesbyFash & Jennie Jenkins.

Danie: What are the wardrobe basics any and every girl should have?
AdoseofFab: An LBD(little black dress), V-neck tees, midi skirts, and a nice pair of pumps.

Danie: Are there specific sites/stores where you shop?
AdoseofFab: No not really, I shop any and everywhere! Whether it’s from a thrift store or H & M, if it looks good, I’m gonna rock it!

Danie: What's your favourite fashion trend of 2016?
AdoseofFab: I love the over the knee boots, oversized denim jackets with painted messages on the back, the Perspex heels/booties, bomber jackets. I could go on and on!

Danie: Have you ever struggled with body image and self confidence issues & how did you overcome it?
AdoseofFab: I’ve struggled with confidence and body image, I gained a lot of weight during my first year of college, but I hit the gym and changed what I ate. I tell myself everyday, I’m beautiful, and when you speak that positivity into your life, you believe it, because it is so. God doesn’t make anything ugly. We are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Danie: What advice can you give to girls with body image and self confidence issues?
AdoseofFab: Love your body, know that what you see in the mirror is what God made, don’t ever hate his creation. Be confident, and if you want to change for the better, do it because you have the power to! It’s about you and nobody else.

Danie: Can you share your hair secrets. Do you wear weaves/wigs?
AdoseofFab: I transitioned for about 16 months, then I finally cut it all off. I usually stick to protective styles, so sew ins, Marley twists/box braids, lace wigs. I drink a lot of water, and eat right and make sure I get my hair trimmed on the regular as well as oiling my scalp. Find a hair routine and stick to it, love your hair and don’t let just anyone put their hands in it.

Danie: What are 3 fashion items you can't live without?
AdoseofFab: Currently, a bomber jacket, a pair of pumps, and a good midi dress.

Danie: Share with us 3 items on your wishlist
AdoseofFab: A camera, a new handbag, and some new ABH matte lipsticks.

Danie: How long does it take you to get ready ?
AdoseofFab: Forever! Lol no really, I have to plan it out depending on where I’m going. But I'd say an hour and a half to two hours, if I don’t have to curl my hair!

Danie: Do you take your blog pictures yourself or a photographer?
AdoseofFab: I have two photographers, Brailey, and Kamila. I wish I had their skills, but they take ALL of my photos.

Danie: What camera do you use and what apps do you use to edit your pictures?
AdoseofFab: Canon T3i…and I don’t edit my photos. I take them as my photographers send them to me and hope for the best.

Danie: What apps do you use to plan outfits?
AdoseofFab: I don’t use any. I simply put things together through trial and error, and usually ask my little sister for a second opinion and go from there.

Danie: Lastly, what advice would you give to a newbie fashion blogger or someone who wants to start a blog
AdoseofFab: Do it! Yes, there are a lot of bloggers out there, but there’s only one YOU. However, blogging is a job in of itself. If you want people to pay attention to you, you have to consistently put out good content, good quality photos, and interact with your readers. Also, be PATIENT.
